   लिंग चयन पर चिंता जायज है किंतु जहां तक औषधी के बात है वह हमारे आयुर्वेद के खजाने में उपलब्ध है और सर्वत्र उपलब्ध है किसी खास जगह पर जाने की जरुरत नहीं है इस औषधी को पाने के लिये।

   देखिए दवा के बारे में कुछ कहना कठिन है क्योंकि आज जो गलत कहा जाता है कल वह सही निकल आता है। मुझे तो केवल इस बात का भय है कि दवा ठीक से ना ली या मिलावट हो गई या फिर खाने वाली/वाले का पेट खराब हो गया और वह ठीक से हजम न हो पाई तब क्या होगा? संतान आधी लड़की आधा लड़का!हम तो खुशी खुशी लड़कियों से ही खुश हैं।
   एक बात और दूध तो गाय ही देती है बैल नहीं फिर दूध के साथ लेना तो अनुचित होगा।

   लगे हाथ यह भी बता देते कि इन दावों की सफलता का प्रतिशत कितना है -लिंग का निर्धारण निषेचन होते ही हो जाता है ! विभेदन कुछ समय लेता है ! मगर अगर जेनेटिक निर्धारण हो गया तो क्या ख़ाक यह दवा असर करेगी ?

   विवेक जी, मैं आयुर्वेद का जानकार नहीं हूँ, इसलिए दवा की प्रमाणिकता पर कोई टिप्‍पणी नहीं कर सकता। हाँ इतना जरूर जानता हूँ कि पीपीएनडीटी एक्‍ट के मुताबिक, ऐसी किसी दवा, जड़ी बूटी का प्रचार-प्रसार करना, उसे बेचना जुर्म है। इसलिए इसका बेचा जाना गलत है। जिम्‍मेदार लोगों को इसे रोकना चाहिए।
   जहाँ तक बात गर्भ के लड़के में बदल जाने का है, यह वैज्ञानिक नहीं है। जैसा कि डॉ अरविन्‍द लिख रहे हैं कि लिंग का निर्धारण तो निषेचन होते ही हो जाता है।‍ फिर कोई दवा या जड़ी लिंग कैसे बदल देगी।
   अरविन्‍द जी, अगर यह दवाएँ कामयाब होतीं तो क्‍या आपको लगता है कि जो बेटियाँ दिखाई दे रही हैं, वे भी दिखाई देतीं। यह तो बिटियों का खौफ है जो ऐसी दवाओं को जिंदा रखे हुए है। एक डॉक्‍टर कह भी रहे हैं कि इसका असर नहीं होता लेकिन लोग चाहते हैं इसलिए वे इसे दे देते हैं।
   हाँ, घुघूती बासूती जी की राय पर जरूर ध्‍यान दें। अगर ऐसा हो गया तो…

   ऐसी दवाओं के पीछे तर्कहीन भेडियाधसान के पीछे हमारी पुत्र प्राप्ति की पारम्परिक मान्यता ही रही है -यह तो महज गोली हुई यहाँ तो न जाने कौन कौन से यग्य -अनुष्ठान भी कराये जाते हैं -एक पुत्रकामेष्ट यग्य है जो महाभारत काल से ही चला आ रहा है !
   जहाँ यह गोली नहीं वहां दूसरी गोलियाँ है कन्या भ्रूण को ही नष्ट करने की और जम जाय तो उसे नृशंस तरीके से मार डालने की -जिसमें पंजाब और हरयाणा सीना ताने दिखाई देते हैं ! अगर नरक नहीं है तो ऐसे आततायियों के लिए नरक होना ही चाहिए ! यह मानवता पर कलंक है !
   पता नहीं कैसे नराधम लोग सुकुमारता .सौम्यता की प्रतीक बच्चियों का वध करने की सोचते भी हैं ! और हम दंभ भरते हैं कि हम सभ्य समाज में रहते हैं !

   In my opinion the problem of Gender Selection has two facets.
   1. The Economics of Gender Selection: A baby, when he/she is born carries a Price Tag. No Price Tag not in real sense but the cost associated with rearing the child.
   Divide this cost into following phases:
   1.1. Infant (A)
   1.2. Childhood (B)
   1.3. Schooling from 1-12 (C)
   1.4. Professional Edu (D)
   1.5. Marriage (E)
   Now the costs A+B+C are gender neutral that is if a parent decides(!) to have a kid then it does not matter what is the gender of the kid is. Now the cost of D+E is very high in case the
   child is a Girl as compared to a boy.
   1.6. RoI, In case of a Girl child, the way we Indians are wired, we think the Girl child has Zero RoI (Return on Investments). While a Boy is thought to be “Budhape ki Lathi”.
   The RoI of Boy child is good, a family is rearing an asset if a Boy is born, and indeed in majority of cases the Boy does support the family. But in equal number of cases the family of
   the Boy child may find themselves on the wrong end of the Stick (Lathi) if something(values) goes wrong in his rearing.

   2. Society and Peer pressure: Most of the Indians (by Indians I mean all of the Indians of all Religions) are driven by the perception that the immediate society that has for their family.
   They constantly need a stamp of approval from their Family, Neighbors etc, if a Girl child is born in your family, you may be feeling happy but people around you will try to make
   you feel as if it a moment of grief. Not even these “Chakke” (Eunuch) come to dance if the new born is a Girl. The thing is Perception, and this perception has ingrained for time in us Indians.

   Some Other thoughts:
   2.1. Ladki kis aur ke ghar mein paida ho tabhi aachi lagti hai.
   2.2. We want best Girl for my Boy to marry. See the Matrimonial Advt for the match for a Boy in any Newspaper. Look at the language “Gori,Fair”.

   So these two prominent factors play a major role for people that go for Gender selection. To validate these two, look at the Rich people do you see any case where they have selected Genders.
   If you say Yes, then my answer would be they are not Rich enough, just middle class that pretend to be rich.

   But the thing is how to change the attitude and perception of people.
   1. A girl child should be state’s Responsibility. I mean to say when a Girl child is born the Govt should open an account in her name at a National Bank and deposit Rs. X in that account.
   This will work for families that are BPL and Lower Middle Class and families in Rural/Semi Rural cities.
   This amount should be added to her account every year till she attains an age of 18 years.

   2. A Girl child should be Educated, Well this is the most important but alas the most arduous task. I cannot think on many ways how to make it a success. But here are some pointers.
   - Primary Education system needs to be Privatized, with involvement of NGOs, Private Players(Govt Gives them the money that is linked with Results) and most importantly the Citizens.
   Private Players provide infrastructure, NGOs the expertise to run the education system and the participation of Citizens (like you and me) to make sure the system is working.
   - In such a system Girl and Boy child can be ensured at least Primary Education.
   - High School Education will needs a twist, It has to be linked with Vocational Skills.
   3. When the Girl child attains the age of 18, the money deposited in her account will directly be used (transferred) to the educational institution that she wants to pursue her career in.
   4. Special institutes of excellence on the Lines of IIT and IIMs must be created solely for Girls. So that there is no rat race for the private coaching and mindless competition pressure.

   OK, Now to the last point.
   What you and me can do?
   1. Keep reading blogs like this and write comments, Well that gives us a sense of achievement, false albeit.
   No, We need to adopt a girl child, No No … do not get disheartened, I am not suggesting you actually adopt a Girl Child and show guts to take her full responsibility. We are not that strong as yet. Just take care of just one girl child and sponsor a Girl child’s education.

   This way you will help the Girl child to avoid the Economic factors working against her.
